Jim Williams is the Acting Deputy Commissioner Support Group of the Australian Border Force which has responsibility for planning, support and continuity of specialist services across the Australian Border Force including facilitating the lawful flow of people and goods, compliance and management of illicit goods and immigration malpractice, and onshore detention, removals and support to regional processing arrangements. Jim has held the permanent role of Assistant Commissioner Border Management Division, Australian Border Force since April 2016.

Jim previously held several SES positions in the Department of Immigration and Border Protection including First Assistant Secretary Visa and Citizenship Management Division, with responsibility for DIBP’s visa operations both in Australia and overseas, delivering the citizenship, family, skilled and temporary visa programmes; Regional Director Americas Region; Assistant Secretary Offshore Biometrics and Overseas Network Branch, Strategic Policy Group and Unauthorised Arrivals and Detention Operations.

Jim’s extensive career with the Immigration and Border Protection portfolio commenced in 1982 when he joined the Australian Public Service. During this time Jim has represented Australia in multiple overseas postings including Hong Kong, Turkey and the United States.
